Branding for a conceptual beauty brand
Bastet Beauty is a conceptual beauty and skincare brand inspired by the Egyptian goddess, dedicated to preserving youthful, healthy skin and timeless beauty. This project involved creating the complete brand identity for Bastet Beauty, including logo design, color and typography palettes, and the application of logos and alternates.
Design Process:
The first step in this branding project involved exploring different visuals and styles to get a clearer direction in the design of this brand. I wanted to research more about Bastet- who she was, her symbolism, and her importance as an Egyptian goddess. Doing so helped give me a better understanding of the meaning behind this brand to successfully capture it in my designs.
I created two mood-boards, one to explore more visuals- other beauty brands I like, Egyptian symbols and aesthetics, and anything else that gave me inspiration, and another mood-board to explore the typography and color palettes I was interested in using.
Early Sketches & Designs:
After getting some inspiration, I started sketching ideas for the logo. I knew I wanted to incorporate cat symbolism to capture Bastet's identity, but I didn't want it to look too much like a pet company. I began by experimenting with cat ears in the wordmark, and eventually, I came up with the idea to embed a cat head into the letter "A."
After sketching out ideas, I moved into exploring digital designs. I began experimenting with my ideas of incorporating the cat ears in the designs, as well as type options and color palettes. In my final designs, I ended up removing the closed counter of the “A” to create an Egyptian pyramid as well, further connecting to this brand’s roots.
